As many of you know R & R are planning their own wedding this year!  We are off to Kauai, our favorite island, to surround ourselves with our closest friends and a few family members!  Throughout all of this planning (which is fun, yet insane) we have met some amazing people and encountered many obstacles. Some things have become more important than others.  Plans are here one day and then gone the next. So we’d like to introduce a new blog topic called R2 University.  It’s focused on all couples who are currently planning their own ceremonies.  These posts will guide you through many concepts, do’s & dont’s of your day, non-traditional weddings and much much more.

We have learned that wedding planners are the way to go!  Why is make-up so important….and the dress.  I currently have two, yes you heard me, TWO, sitting in my closet.  They are both mine.  I bought one within the first few months of us planning our wedding.  And while I love it-I didn’t LOVE it!  So it was off to the bridal store with an amazing friend in tow.  We hit up Uptown Bridal.  Now being in the industry we knew this place was fabulous.  So this was of course our first choice.  And bam, there it was.  Dress #2 and I had my moment. You know that one where you have an ugly cry, need Kleenex, and then just know that you have found the one?  We would not recommend any other bridal store as much as Uptown.  Their attention to detail, their employees, their dressing rooms, the layout and cleanliness of their shop and their dresses are far beyond other shops.  Trust me, we know firsthand.  While I can’t give away the details of Robin wedding attire, I will tell you that we BOTH loved this store and the people that make it amazing!  So with that,  please welcome our first guest blogger for R2 University Nicole.

Hi! I’m Nicole Gould co-owner of Uptown Bridal & Boutique, and I’m bringing you some new trends and eye candy in the bridal fashion world. I am loving this season’s presentation of gowns incorporating color; from the bold to the subdued, color can beautify, bend or even break the traditional bridal gown rules! After all, who needs rules anyways, right?!

Tip #1 – Beautify the rules

For brides that are not absolutely set on the traditional white or more common ivory selections, designers are now presenting slightly off-hue options that make a bride glow… literally.

From shades of oyster to champagne, a warm-toned gown can accentuate hair colors and soften skin tones. Furthermore, outdoor wedding settings lend perfectly to these shades found in nature whether it be on the beach or in the woods.

Tip #2 – Bending the rules

Sometimes a bride wants something fresh, modern, and unexpected but still wants to “look” and “feel” like a semi-traditional bride.

Pink, purple, and peach gowns have been worn by celebrities creating a trend now embraced by the fashion-forward bride. Being the center of attention never felt so good.

Tip #3 – Breaking the rules

Guests will not soon forget a bride wearing a gown that boldly features black, red or blue. It’s not for the faint of heart, but these daring dresses promise to be shock, stun, and swoon worthy.

The silhouettes can be timeless or modern, but the color will definitely be what will captivate the crowd.

In my opinion, there is nothing as stunning as a gal in a wedding gown. In white, she’s a vision. In ivory, she’s a classic beauty. But in color, she’s blissful and bold!

Nicole wore ivory… but so did her bridesmaids. Her flowers, cake, and decor? You guessed it… Ivory!
